How to play Bluff

Play online with friends, or add bots to practice solo. Choose Chinese same-rank or American A-to-K rules, then see who can bluff their way to an empty hand.

Get rid of all your cards — and survive the challenge on your last play.
  1. Deal

3–8 players share a shuffled 52-card deck, with no jokers. The host can add or remove bots in the lobby; one person and two bots can start a game. You see only your own hand. The first starter is random; the previous winner starts the next round.

  2. Play face down. Make a claim.

When starting a fresh pile, tap the rank you want to claim, then choose 1–4 cards. Check the claim on the play button, like “2 cards of rank Q.” The actual cards can be anything. The number of cards is always shown correctly.

  3. Believe them, or call bluff!

After a play, any other player can challenge before time runs out. Only that latest play is revealed. One wrong rank makes the player pick up the whole pile. If every card matches, the challenger takes it. The first challenge received by the server counts.

Chinese · Same rank

The starter chooses a rank and everyone follows it. Passing is allowed. If every other player passes in succession, discard the pile; its last player chooses a new rank. After a challenge, the player who won the challenge starts with any rank.

American · A → K

Start at A, then each player claims the next rank: 2, 3…K, then back to A. No passing. After a challenge, the player after the challenged player still takes the next turn at the next rank.

Online table rules: the challenge window defaults to 60 seconds; the host can also choose 6 or 15 seconds. If everyone else taps “I believe you,” it ends early. Accepting waives your challenge for this play. No challenge means the play stands, including the final hand.

Bots play, pass, and decide whether to challenge using only their own cards and public information. They pause when every human is offline and resume when someone returns.

House rules vary. This table uses the versions above, with no jokers, four-of-a-kind discards, or false card counts.
